Group II Microscopic tumor remaining after surgery. Standard Treatment These tumors are treated in the same manner as Group I lesions. Five-Year Survival 65 percent Group III Tumors cannot be removed at initial surgery because they have infiltrated into surrounding tissues or lymph nodes , but have not shown evidence of spread to distant sites. Standard Treatment These patients are treated with similar combination chemotherapy and radiation after surgery, but may have a second opportunity at surgery to remove the tumor completely after it has decreased in size. Five-Year Survival 45 percent Group IV The tumor has spread to distant sites at the time of diagnosis.
